OUR CLASSES

PRE-DANCE
Our Pre-Dance program is a movement based curriculum which touches on the basics of Ballet, with some play sprinkled in! Our Pre-Dance I class incorporates such fundamentals as counting, taking turns, creative thinking, and the elementary foundations of Ballet, while our Pre-Dance II class employs those principles, plus the basics of rhythm and musicality. Our Pre-Level students have fun while learning!
Students as young as 2 years old may register, as long as they are potty trained and ready for this kind of social interaction.
RECREATIONALÂ DANCE
Whether you're learning dance for fun, or dedicating the time to refining your technique, we offer classes that take every student's goals seriously. Our classes blend technique, vocabulary, and creativity with encouragement and caring. Reference the information below for full class descriptions.
COMBO LEVEL
A segue between our Pre-Dance program and single-discipline Level classes, the Combo Level is designed for young students who've completed the Pre-Dance program and are ready for a more challenging curriculum, without losing the fun of their early learning experience. In this 90 minute class, students learn Ballet, Jazz, and Acro. This applies to both Combo I and Combo II.
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
BALLET
Ballet is the foundation for most dance disciplines. Our Ballet curriculum is rooted in Cecchetti, French, and Vaganova techniques, encouraging the refinement of body lines, grace, and fluidity of movement. We encourage every student to take Ballet, especially those who wish to take multiple styles of dance. While the focus is on classical training, we pepper in contemporary themes and methodologies.

Pointe is available for students who meet the specific criteria required by the instructor. Students will be recommended for Pointe when the instructor determines that they're ready, and no earlier.
JAZZ
Jazz dance is one of the most vast and exciting dance forms. The Jazz curriculum at LPAC employs a number of established Jazz techniques (Fosse, Luigi, Mattox), and styles such as Musical Theater, Commercial, Afro-Jazz, and Jazz Funk.

This class focuses on center practice, progressions, and choreography as a means of expanding the students' movement vocabulary.
TAP
Ready to make some noise? Explore the fun, and sometimes mathematical, discipline of Tap dancing! Learn everything from classical rhythms to more contemporary patterns; Soft Shoe and Shim Sham, to Hoofing and Improvisation. With a heavy focus on music theory for dance, our students spend a healthy amount of their training on understanding the relationship- and union- between music and dancer.
HIP HOP
A true American art form, the rich history of Hip Hop culture and contemporary trends combine in our Hip Hop program. This curriculum focuses on the origins of Hip Hop; the importance of the movements, music, and culture of what started as a phenomenon. More than just trend movements, this class spans B-Boy/B-Girl style, pop and lock, tutting, waving, funk, and various styles of footwork.
MODERN
Steeped in the foundations of classical Ballet, Modern offers the discipline and specificity of Ballet, but with the edge and liberation of creativity and abstraction of lines. Our Modern curriculum is primarily Horton-based technique, with explorations in Graham, Limon, and many others. With studies in improvisation, spatial awareness, and creative concepts, Modern is an excellent class for students looking to expand their abilities and challenge their minds and bodies. All students enrolling in Modern must also be actively enrolled in Ballet.
ACRODANCE
Acrobatic Dance, or Acrodance, is the lovely and fluid marriage of dance and skills requiring strength and control. While there are elements of tumbling, Acrodance is different than gymnastics, as Acro does not utilize apparatus and is done mainly on a dance floor.
Our studio is a proud Acrobatic Arts certified studio and follows their very specific curriculum at all levels from Combo and up. Acro focuses on limbering, strengthening, bodily control, flexibility, spinal elongation and proper alignment to ensure a successful stacking of skills, which fortifies a dancer's self-awareness and builds confidence.

ADULT DANCE

This multidisciplinary program is geared for adults who want to move, learn new skills (or refresh what they already know), get a workout in, or just have FUN! We run this class as part of our Drop-In program, so there's no commitment and zero pressure. The class spends time alternating between Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, and Modern, with the occasional stretch class in the mix. All adults are welcome!
CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary dance, as with Lyrical, draws its technique from classical principles of Ballet but is coupled with the creativity of Modern. The themes and material covered in Contemporary require a student to be mature of mind and open to learning how to move in ways that challenge them physically and mentally. This class emphasizes musicality and phrasing, and a student's willingness to push their own movement boundaries is essential. It's strongly recommended that students actively enroll in Ballet and Modern when enrolling in Contemporary. This is an excellent class for the creative-minded student!
